McLean, Arthur Edward, 87, went peacefully to meet his Lord and Savior at Orlando Regional Hospital on February 1 at 11:02 am surrounded by his sons and their loving families. This was precisely as he wished. Ed was a dedicated and faithful servant of God whose presence was felt everywhere he went. Ed knew no strangers. Ed was born in Live Oak, FL to his parents Archibald and Leonore McLean on March 28, 1925. He was the youngest child to his sister, Evelyn. At a very early age, the McLean family moved back to Miami, FL where Ed spent most of his early years. Ed was a skilled and avid athlete, coach and sports fan, and played basketball for Miami High School. After graduation, Ed attended the University of Florida where he was the President of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. It was at university he met the love of his life, Barbara Ann Burtt. At that time of their meeting, Barbara was a senior and the Homecoming Queen of Titusville High School. He and Barbara were immediately smitten with each other. It was at the University of Florida that their joint love for each other, and life-long love for the university developed. They were married on May 7, 1948, and moved back to Miami where he both worked and coached local sports teams. Ed and Barbara were blessed with four sons, Donald, John, Robert and James. Ed made a very successful career in pharmaceutical sales management moving his growing family from Miami to Colombia, S.C., and Jacksonville, FL, before finally settling in Maitland, FL for last 50 years. Until fully retiring, Ed also owned and operated a Ryan's Family Steakhouse in Apopka, FL. As a UF Bull Gator, Ed and Barbara traveled far and wide with their Gator friends, enjoying Gator sports and developing many very personal friendships with fellow fans, coaches, students, and athletes. Ed and Barbara also enjoyed traveling, with two foreign trips being his absolute favorites - Australia and Scotland. Visiting Duart Castle on the Isle and Mull, Scotland, and having tea with the McLean Clan matriach, Lady McLean, was special for he and Barbara. Ed was extremely proud of his family and remained actively engaged right up to the time of his passing. Ed is survived by his wife, Barbara, sons and their wives, Donald and Tweela McLean, John and Mary Charles McLean, Robert and Emmie An McLean, and James and Townsend McLean; grandchildren, Cornelia Ledford, Dustin Hixson, Shade McLean, John McLean Jr, Chuck McLean, Lee McLean, Melissa Witherspoon, Elizabeth Ann McCuen, Thomas McLean, Shelby McLean, James McLean and Harris McLean; 10 great grandchildren; and his niece Nancy Simpson.
